Project Title: Integrated Retail Management System Implementation for Sydney International Airport
Client: Sydney Airport Corporation Ltd. (SACL)
Contract Period: 9 months; completed April 2001

Description:

The Integrated Retail Management System (RMS) implementation at the Sydney International Airport (SIA), Australia is one of the largest integrated RMS installations in an airport in Australia. The international terminal complex housed approximately 150 concessions. Sydney Airport Corporation Ltd. (SACL) requires an automated system to store and retrieve information about their retail revenue in the airport and all associated information with respect to retail management.

Retailing is managed by retail experts in the commercial space provided by the airport operator and in return for the space provided; the airport authority collects a percentage of the sales in terms of royalty. The primary function of the RMS is to enable SACL to effectively monitor and manage Retail Revenue generated by the airport. The RMS provides SACL with on-line sales information as well as passenger movement information from the various existing airport systems. As such, income/revenue is calculated and sales analysis on passenger buying profiles, most/least saleable items, seasonal item analysis and many other customizable items performed on a daily basis to ensure that retail revenue generation is constantly maximized.

With the RMS, SACL is able to ensure that the relevant retailers (or concessionaires) are performing effectively to ensure maximum revenue generation at each of their stores in the airport. In addition, SACL is able to effectively decide whether a store should be relocated in view that the current location is not commercially viable. Alternatively, the RMS can also provide decision making information, e.g. the suitability of a particular specialty store in an airport environment and that its occupying space can provide better commercial prospects to a specialty store of a different nature. With RMS, SACL is able to make informed decisions based on the results and information provided to ensure that each retail/commercial space is effectively utilized to maximize revenue consistently.

There are five separate but inter-related aspects of the development of the RMS system and they are Design & Development, Equipment Acquisition, Training, RMS Procedures Manual (RPM),Operations & Maintenance (O&M)
